• Preparing for a worldtrip

Most people who make a trip like this, do that only once in their life, so preparations are quite a big deal. We have first decided what our budget would be and we made that our main goal for the past years. That money can only be spent once, so have a list with places we really want to see and what comes in second place. It will drive you crazy, because as soon as you get into the details, everything looks fantastic! Nevertheless, we have managed to turn our huge list into a rough plan with A. the countries we reallyrealyreally want to discover and B. our second choices, the countries we want to visit if our budget allows it. Our global wish list can be found here but generally: we will see where we’ll end up… In addition,…

  • Our packinglist

Perhaps the most discussed topic in Casa di TravelDNA before we left: what will we take with us? During a vacation of two or three weeks, we usually carry a backpack of about 6 kilos. For our worldtrip this is not realistic, so we will travel with about 10 kilos per person. Unfortunately, this means we can’t always take our luggage as carry on. Traveling lightweight has it’s pros and cons. Apart from saving a lot of check-in fees with cheap airlines, it’s very relaxed, your whole body is grateful and that minimalistic life does something to your brain. And yes, there is a downside. You’ll have to make strict choices what you can and cannot bring. Your laptop, a range of Lonely Planets and that extra pair of shoes… choices choices. Well-considered and unanimous, we decided to bring only…

  • Less is more

The freedom of traveling light is endless, your shoulders and back feel the difference immediately and your mood will be better by the step. The choice for a larger backpack will quickly tempt you to bring even more stuff, while you’ll always regret this once you’re on the road. You can of course choose to leave half of your wardrobe with that poor family in that cute village, but it all starts with your wardrobe. CHOOSE. Be strict, think multifunctional and lightweight. Make a stack of must-bring and a stack that may also be allowed if you have space left. Yes, all nicely put, but how do you choose? Your closet is full of beautiful clothes that you all want to take with you. It depends, of course, greatly on which countries you visit and the purpose of your trip,…

  • Rescheduled flight hustle

We booked a flight with Qatar Airways from Amsterdam to Capetown with a layover of four hours in Doha. Nice price, very ok airline, not too much time in between. We are happy. Then suddenly we got a disturbing e-mail from the airline: your flight has changed. This is never good news. Our first flight to Doha has been pushed back for a couple of hours for some vague reason, so now we have a layover of minus 3 hours. Perhaps we are missing something here in terms of local time? We call Qatar Airways, a friendly gentleman with a Middle Eastern accent explains our options but we cannot understand a word he’s saying. Finally we can make something out of his blabla… we have two options, we can move our second flight, which goes from Doha to Cape Town,…
